What is Zen?
The word “Zen” is the Japanese pronunciation of the Middle Chinese character “chan”, which is derived as a translation from the Sanskrit term “dhyana”, which can be freely translated as an ‘absorption’ or ‘meditation’.
Literally ‘seated meditation’, unique to Zen, basically zazen is the study of self. It is very simple practice but like the other practices it takes doing it in order for it to happen.
Literally ‘touching the heart-mind’, an extended meditation that includes sitting meditation, walking meditation, chanting, oryoki (a formal, meditative way of eating).
